Treatment of infertility of women and men

In the acupuncture office of prof Enji you will receive support throughout the ART / IVF cycleup to the blood test after embryo transfusion (ET). Your acupuncture specialist will carefully analyze your health history and current situation before planning an IVF treatment plan. Of course, it will be required to perform a series of acupuncture treatments on the body using very thin needles. For example, acupuncture points related to fertility are found on the lower back, lower abdomen, and legs. There are also common points on the head, neck, upper back, and arms that promote relaxation, and certain points on the ear that are used to alleviate hormonal imbalances. Typically, an acupuncture assist infertility treatment plan is combined with a Chinese herbal remedy as an adjunct.

An example treatment plan for an IVF cycle might look something like this: Initial acupuncture therapy (1-5 treatments) and Chinese herbs prescribed within 2 weeks of the onset of menstruation. Then follow up with herbs and an ongoing acupuncture series once a week including two special acupuncture treatments on Embryo Transfer Day (ET) – one before ET and the other after, both ideally within 2 hours of transfer. Treatment should continue until a blood test is confirmed after approximately 2 weeks. After a successful transfer and implantation, we will continue to support you in the relaxed atmosphere of our clinic to help you enjoy a comfortable and healthy pregnancy.

How does acupuncture work for infertility?

There are as many theories as acupuncture points (hundreds). Acupuncturists rely on (and often take part in) extensive research in this field. The studies that have been done are not perfect, but some have suggested that acupuncture improves ovulation, increases blood flow to the uterus (which increases the chances of implantation), and results in better pregnancy outcomes overall. More research has yet to be done to verify that acupuncture actually improves fertility, and if so, by how much? However, we do not believe that acupuncture is harmful to patients trying to conceive.

Does acupuncture for infertility hurt?

Pain tolerance is subjective, of course, but most people who tremble at the thought of needles are pleasantly surprised by the lack of pain. While initial discomfort may occur at some sensitive points, the amazing relaxation benefits quickly take over. Even the shyest of patients will often leave the session feeling renewed, revitalized and even slightly relaxed.

Is acupuncture safe for infertility?

Acupuncture is completely safe when done by trained, qualified practitioners. Just don’t try it at home.

Remember that the most important thing is to get into the hands of a good specialist and properly prepare for the First Visit and then for theacupuncture treatments themselves.

Our articles on the blogand the material answering the question “How many acupuncture treatments are used to treat certain diseases” may also be helpful to you.

How long does standard acupuncture treatment for infertility last?

We would like to be able to give you the exact time and the required number of treatments, but it depends on the patient or couple individually. Overall, we work with people for a minimum of 3-6 months. (It takes 3 months to develop new eggs). Therapy can involve both a woman and a man. In the case of couples with comorbid PCOS diseases, treatment may be significantly longer and require consultation with other specialists.

In very difficult cases of infertility, treatment may include combination therapies, acupuncture, herbal medicine, appropriate diets and exercise for up to 2 years.

How often do you have to come for the treatment of infertility with acupuncture to make sense?

Treatment plans are as varied as our patients. Part of our initial consultation will be to create a treatment plan that is specific to each patient’s needs. In general, for infertility acupuncture treatment, we recommend twice-weekly treatmentsso that we can closely monitor the treatment cycle and progress.

Should I continue fertility treatment after I become pregnant?

Patients may continue acupuncture throughout their pregnancy if they wish to do so. We usually recommend that patients who are already pregnant continue their visitsonce a week throughout the first trimester to support pregnancy and to help treat common symptoms associated with early pregnancy.

We see many uses of acupuncture to treat insomnia and nausea, which often occur in the first trimester. Many of our patients also use acupuncture as a baby safe method to treat any health problems not related to pregnancy.

What should I do before and after acupuncture treatments for infertility?

Remember to eat before coming to the office. Also, dress comfortably and try to rest after the procedure. One of the great benefits of acupuncture is relaxation – we believe it will last as long as possible.
